Alfond Scholarship FAQs

All incoming first-year students applying for the fall term, including international students, are eligible for Rollins’ Alfond Scholarship. Spring applicants and transfer applicants are not eligible for the scholarship. If you’ve done a gap year, the maximum number of gap years a student could have completed at the time of applying is two.

There is no additional step needed to apply for the Alfond Scholarship. Simply apply either Early Decision I or Early Action via the Common App or the Rollins Application by November 15. International students must submit proof of English proficiency and the Non-U.S. Citizen Financial Aid Application as part of their application.

To be considered for the Alfond Scholarship, all required documents must be submitted by the November 15 deadline. This includes official transcripts, one academic letter of recommendation, the essay included in the application (no supplemental essays are required), and a list of activities and achievements. We’re looking for students who truly stand out—leaders, innovators, and changemakers.

Yes, test-optional students are eligible, and because this is highly competitive, successful applicants typically have very strong GPAs and an exceptional list of activities and accomplishments.

You will need to submit your application by November 15, the priority deadline. In early December, students are notified if they have been selected to move forward to the interview process. Interviews take place in late January, and final decisions are announced in early to mid-February.

If you are selected, you will participate in a series of 25-minute virtual interviews with a faculty member, current Alfond Scholars, and a member of the selection committee. During the interviews, we encourage you to let your personality shine and share what you are passionate about. We use both your application and interview performance to make final decisions. Previous Alfond Scholars have founded non-profits that have supported global crises, conducted high-level medical research, and published significant research papers.

Typically, about 10 to 12 students are chosen each year. Students selected as Alfond Scholars will be invited to campus for a personalized visit experience.

The scholarship covers tuition, room, and board. Expenses such as books, health insurance, personal costs, and taxes are not covered by the Alfond Scholarship, and international students should be prepared to demonstrate financial resources of about $6,000 to $8,000, which cover the previously mentioned items plus travel and visa costs. For domestic Alfond Scholars, Rollins will cover a campus visit, and for international Alfond Scholars, Rollins will cover their first round-trip flight to and from campus once they enroll.
