Rollins Joins LECOM as an Early Acceptance Affiliate College

Students interested in pursuing graduate studies in the medical field have a new option when it comes to planning for the future. Rollins recently joined the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine’s (LECOM) affiliate program. The partnership, which offers provisional early acceptance to LECOM’s School of Pharmacy, School of Dental Medicine, or College of Osteopathic Medicine, was formed in conjunction with Rollins’ Pre-Health Professions Advising Program.

Like the LECOM affiliate program, Rollins’ Pre-Health Professions Advising program was designed to offer students access to health and health-adjacent curriculum prior to receiving their bachelor’s degree. Students enrolled in the pre-health track may major in any discipline as long as they take the required core science courses associated with pre-health. The program offers extracurricular opportunities such as job fairs and the ability to shadow health-care professionals. Additionally, students who enroll in the pre-health program have access to a faculty advisor dedicated to helping them navigate their undergraduate experience as it pertains to their professional goals.

“The Pre-Health Professions Advising program provides support to undergraduate students seeking careers in the medical field,” says Marisa Fuse, Rollins’ new health professions advisor. “The goal of the program is to guide students through course selection to complete prerequisites and assist them in navigating the application process.”

In addition to providing a pathway to medical school, the LECOM Early Acceptance Program carries several unique benefits. Interested students can apply as early as their senior year of high school or as late as the end of their second year of undergraduate studies. Though rigorous, the program streamlines much of the process of applying to medical school. For instance, students who score sufficiently high on the ACT or SAT and meet certain metrics as part of their undergrad affiliate program may be exempt from taking the MCAT, and early acceptance into the program could save students time and money associated with managing multiple medical-school applications.

“We’re very excited to partner with LECOM to provide this opportunity to our students,” says Fuse. “Students can save themselves the great expense and stress of applying to health professions schools, which can often total near $2,000. By the end of their second year at Rollins, they will know that they have a guaranteed seat waiting for them after graduation and can focus on completing their undergraduate studies.”

LECOM is a private college with locations in Erie and Greensburg, Pennsylvania; Elmira, New York; and Bradenton, Florida. High school students with a 3.5 on a 4.0 scale or higher may apply. For students already attending Rollins, a cumulative overall GPA of 3.4 or higher and a science GPA of 3.2 or higher is required.
