Business professor Serina Al-Haddad and international business major Anjella Klaiber ’23 have contributed to the growing body of academic research on sustainable development by co-authoring a peer-reviewed article published in the scholarly journal Sustainable Development.

The study examines how 90 European companies track and reduce carbon emissions across their supply chains. It finds limited progress in reducing these emissions, though companies with proactive climate strategies tend to perform better. The findings highlight the need for clearer policies and more transparent reporting to assess progress toward climate goals.

Their research collaboration began during Klaiber’s undergraduate studies and continued beyond graduation.

Sustainable Development is an interdisciplinary journal that seeks to address and discuss ways to deliver sustainable development. Papers must address issues associated with the achievement of sustainable development or one or more of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The article’s publication highlights how faculty mentorship and undergraduate research can build lasting scholarly partnerships, giving students opportunities to apply their learning and contribute to research on global challenges.
