Teaching at Rollins, Fall 2020

Teaching and learning in the fall will still look like Rollins, no matter where it occurs because of the current circumstances.

The Rollins COVID site will have the most up-to-date information and announcements about the campus.

Whatever your modality this fall, you'll be teaching with technology. Below are your two key supports:

The updated Rollins Teaching Resources Canvas site identifies specific practices and technologies for a range of teaching activities (e.g., interacting with students, sharing content, assessing learning) and for the different modalities: "online equivalent-synchronous," "online equivalent-asynchronous," and "physical distanced classroom."

The Instructional Design & Technology team supports the use of technology in face-to-face, web-enhanced, and blended classrooms. They are available to help with course design (including discussing/planning the integration of technology into your course, researching and identifying technology tools that align with course goals, assisting with Canvas course design, and guiding the design of web-enhanced, flipped, and blended courses), assignment design, in-class instruction to students, and other professional development opportunities.  See their calendar of trainings and workshops here.

How will you design or redesign your classes for the specific circumstances this fall?   Below are some key supports:

The "Designing for Fall 2020" document guides you through a design process that responds to these circumstances with flexibility and pedagogically sound practices.

Nancy Chick offers consultations and facilitates conversations about design and redesign, as well as

  • reflecting upon, learning about, or improving your teaching,
  • understanding, assessing, or improving your students' learning,
  • conducting research on your teaching and/or your students' learning (i.e., the scholarship of teaching and learning, or SoTL),
  • being intentional about the interwoven nature of teaching, scholarship, and service.

Many of your colleagues across campus can serve as support and inspiration during this process.
