Social Entrepreneurship: The Business of Changing the World

The Social Entrepreneurship major combines entrepreneurial thinking and action; cutting-edge problem-solving methodologies; understanding of current economic, political, cultural, and environmental issues; and best practices from business skill sets. The program positions you to find—or create—careers that apply innovative and sustainable solutions to the world’s most pressing challenges. It enables you to build a career out of making the world a better place, and learn transferable tools for creating change across public, private, and non-profit sectors.

What is Social Entrepreneurship?

Social entrepreneurship utilizes business skills to solve social and environmental problems. Social enterprise businesses focus on the triple bottom line: people, planet, and profit. Solutions are effective, innovative, and financially sustainable. A social enterprise business model can be for-profit, non-profit, or hybrid (with for-profit & non-profit elements). The company mission is to create social or environmental impact and all business activities are organized with that in mind. Social entrepreneurship demonstrates that businesses can be profitable while also making a positive impact on our world.
