Visions of the City
September 12, 2026 - January 3, 2027
Drawn entirely from the museum’s permanent collection, this exhibition explores representations of urban life across various media. How are depictions of city living reflective of the social, cultural, and political factors shaping these environments? What are the visual markers of rapidly growing cities, and how have artists interpreted them as signs of progress, technological innovation, and expansion? Fascinated by skyscrapers, fast-paced lifestyles, bridges, and the city's lively atmosphere, artists often approach these themes from personal experience, creating works that both document and analyze their significance in a rapidly changing world. Visions of the City brings together paintings, photographs, and prints from the 19th to the 21st century, showcasing cityscapes from the U.S. and around the globe.
