Coyle Receives Prestigious International Acoustics Award
Physics professor Whitney Coyle has been named the recipient of the 2026 R. Bruce Lindsay Award from the Acoustical Society of America (ASA), one of the world’s leading professional organizations in acoustics.
March 12, 2026
The award recognizes early career researchers who have made significant contributions to the science of acoustics through research and service to the professional community. Physics professor Whitney Coyle was honored “for contributions to understanding the acoustics of the clarinet and for service to the Society.”
At Rollins, Coyle leads undergraduate-centered research exploring how sound is produced and measured in both musical instruments and large-scale systems like rocket launches. Her work connects fundamental physics with real-world acoustic environments while providing students with hands-on research opportunities.
The ASA recognition follows several recent honors from Rollins, including the 2025 Cornell Distinguished Faculty Award, the 2024 Bornstein Award for Faculty Scholarship, and the 2022 Hugh and Jeannette McKean Faculty Grant, recognizing her sustained contributions to teaching, scholarship, and research at the College.
Coyle will accept the Lindsay Award at the ASA’s meeting in May 2026 in Philadelphia.
