Information Technology

New to Rollins

Welcome! Learn how I.T. can ease your transition.

Welcome to the Rollins College community! The mission of Information Technology is to help you use technology in ways that will increase your efficiency and effectiveness. We do that by providing a stable network environment, the appropriate hardware and software, easy ways to access your data, face-to-face and online training opportunities, and, most importantly, people. People who speak technical and non-technical lingo; people who understand academics and higher education administration; people who are committed to providing the best service to our clients that we possibly can.

Please call the Help Desk at 407-628-6363 with any technology problem or question. The Help Desk will direct your question to the right IT unit for resolution. If you experience any other difficulties, have an idea that you wish to discuss, or want to provide other feedback, please feel free to contact me directly.

Further information on our services can be found by following the link for new students or new faculty and staff.

Again, welcome to Rollins!

FoxID

The username and password that is used to log in to the majority of systems at Rollins is known as your FoxID.  Your initial FoxID will be provided to you in an email sent to your home, email address from our Help Desk. The default Rollins Passphrase is a capital “R”, your R#, followed by the 8 characters of your birthdate (e.g. Rxxxxxxxx01011989). You will be required to change this password when your first log in.  For information on password requirements or to change your password go to password.rollins.edu.

Accounts

EMAIL
Your email address will be <Your FoxID Login>@rollins.edu. Once you have your email account, you can easily configure your mobile phone to receive your email and sync with your calendar. More information about your email account can be found here.

FOXLINK
FoxLink is our portal system and is the place to enter final grades, find your pay stub, and many other links pertinent to you and your employment. Your FoxID is used to access FoxLink. More information about FoxLink can be found here.

CANVAS
Every academic course has an online Canvas course associated with it.  Faculty and students are automatically enrolled into their courses. There are also many committees that have Canvas courses to help them organize their documents and discussions. Your FoxID is used to access Canvas. We create courses when the course schedule is released. This is generally one semester ahead, but new courses do get added regularly. You have to be assigned to a course as its instructor within Banner for that course to appear on your list of courses.  More information about Canvas can be found here.   NOTE:  You will receive a separate email once your Canvas account has been created.

There are a number of other accounts that you may also need, depending on your specific campus function. More specific information on other types of accounts can be found here.

College Computers

Tenure-track faculty receive a new machine (PC or Mac) upon hire. Visiting faculty and employees inherit the machine of the person they are replacing. Information Technology has a standard machine that we provide, but upgrades and changes to that machine are possible, with price differentials paid by the hiring department. Machines are replaced based on a technology cycle rather than after a specific time period.

Public computers (both PCs and Macs) are available across campus in a number of labs, classrooms and the library. For lab locations and hours of operations click here.  Laptops can also be checked out through the Library Circulation Desk for 24 hours on a first-come, first-served basis.

Telephones

Every office is equipped with a desktop and voice-over IP (VoIP) telephone. Phones and phone numbers typically stay with a position.  If you are starting a new position or there is a specific reason for needing a new phone or phone number, your department can make this request through the Help Desk.  More information about your VoIP phone can be found here.

Network

Every classroom, office and residential room has wired ports for network access. Wireless access is also available in all academic spaces, residence halls and several outdoor spots where students meet.

New Students

As a new student, we will be creating a series of accounts for you. Most of the time, your username will be your first initial followed by your last name (e.g. John Doe = jdoe). There are times when others on the campus already have that username, so we would need to add middle initial or some other differentiator. You will know when you receive your email account. Your default Rollins Passphrase is a capital “R”, your R#, followed by the 8 characters of your birthdate (e.g. Rxxxxxxxx01011989). You will be required to change this password when your first log in.

CLA students receive a Rollins email account a month or so before your matriculation. Crummer and Holt students receive an account soon after you register for classes. Upon graduation, you will keep your email account for life. Once you have your email account, you can easily configure your mobile phone to receive your email and sync with your calendar.

FoxLink is our portal system and is the place to find your course schedule, final grades, special forms that need to be completed, financial information and more. The same username and password are used here.

Each of your courses has an online Canvas course associated with it. You will be automatically enrolled into your Canvas courses and you can access these courses using that same username and password.

More specific information on all of your accounts can be found throughout this website.

Hardware/Software

Public computers (both PCs and Macs) are available across campus in a number of labs, classrooms and the library. Laptops can also be checked out through the Library Circulation Desk for 24 hours on a first-come, first-served basis.

Rollins supports both PC and Mac platforms, so you will be able to bring to campus whatever devices you use. Connecting to the campus network requires that you have updated antivirus software on your computer and that you allow for automatic updates. We have a license for the entire campus, so there is no reason for you not to be in compliance. You may also log onto the network with mobile phones, iPads and iTouches, and gaming devices. Contact the Help Desk if you need any assistance with these devices.

We publish our hardware and software specifications  annually, so you can be sure that the machine you bring to campus will allow you to be successful in your courses.

Accounts are created once you have been entered into our main database by Human Resources as a new employee. We do our best to accommodate requests to create email accounts early if that will help your transition to campus. Once you have your email account, you can easily configure your mobile phone to receive your email and synch with your calendar.
