Student Philanthropy Week 2025

More than 50 student groups participated in Student Philanthropy Week to raise essential funds and deepen the culture of giving at Rollins.

Long before they become alumni, today’s Rollins students are already discovering what it means to give back. Through Student Philanthropy Week (SPW), they’re seeing firsthand how donor generosity fuels the experiences that shape their time on campus—and how their efforts prepare them to become global leaders and responsible citizens in the world beyond Rollins.

This year’s campaign, only the second of its kind, saw impressive momentum with 53 student groups participating and more than 150 students stepping up as advocates. What began as a fundraising challenge quickly became a hands-on lesson in marketing and community building. Students personalized their fundraising pages, tapped into their social media skills (demonstrating that Gen Z really does have this social media thing down), and found creative ways to generate hype. From improv students jumping in the lake for every 20 donors to brave student leaders good-naturedly volunteering to take a pie to the face, there was never a dull moment.

A Student Perspective

For Joseph Pool ’26—SGA vice president, president of Omicron Delta Kappa, and founder of Breaking Bread—the week underscored both the obstacles student groups face and the positive impact fundraising can have on their work. “Catering is expensive, and with Breaking Bread growing at a rapid pace, the annual $200 provided by Campus Involvement could only cover 1–2 meals at most,” he said.

Beyond his own organizations, he witnessed a wave of energy across campus. “The excitement student leaders had about being able to raise hundreds or even thousands for their organizations was palpable.”

And the support came from all corners. “When donations came from unexpected places, such as certain Deans and VPs of the College and family members, this brought excitement and meaning to our work.”

Campaign Results

Top five groups with the most unique donors:

  • Rollins Improv Players
  • Club Volleyball
  • Rollins Hillel
  • Black Student Union
  • Student Media

First to reach 25 donors:

  • Rollins Improv Players

Most creative outreach campaign, judged by the Alumni Advisory Board:

  • Rollins Improv Players

These recognitions celebrated not only the $36,346 raised, but also the strategies and collaboration that made SPW as much a learning experience as it was a fundraising opportunity.

Brett Carlos ’26—a member of the Bonner Leadership Program, president of Club Tennis, and one of this year’s top student advocates—shared a few takeaways from SPW. In addition to generating 57 clicks, seven gifts, and $1,135 in support through his outreach, he emphasized the power of staying connected. “Consistent communication really does make a difference. Even the simplest email or text can open the door to a potential donation and move your organization forward.”

Now, student organizations are putting their SPW dollars to work. Rollins Club Tennis plans to spend their earnings covering court rentals, tournament fees, travel, and equipment. Rollins College Against Cancer will use its funds for club programming, essentials like tabling materials, and participation in Relay for Life. The Rollins Jam-Out! Club is investing in shared instruments, production software, and the costs of hosting events, including their annual Battle of the Bands.

Together, these practical needs tell a larger story: students aren’t just raising money—they’re building a culture of generosity, collaboration, and community impact that will continue to grow long after SPW ends.
