Mary Choi Robinson, assistant director of international programs and adjunct professor, recently received a 2023 Diversity in Business Award from the Orlando Business Journal.

Robinson is one of a group of 18 individuals, companies, and organizations acknowledged for leading the charge in efforts toward diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. Winners were recognized in seven categories, with Robinson earning the title of Outstanding Diversity Champion. The publication selected these local leaders for taking significant steps to embrace DEIB across all areas of diversity and for overcoming challenges to ensure a more inclusive environment both in their industries and the community at large.

In her role at Rollins, Robinson advises students on how to become effective global citizens and gain intercultural awareness. In her new course, Asian American Identity Through Representation, she leads students on an examination of how Asian American identity is represented through various lenses, including media, the arts, gender, food, and politics. She challenges students to reconsider who is “American” and why that is important so they develop a historical and contextual foundation of Asians in America and the challenges and consequences of representation and misrepresentation.

Robinson also co-advises the Asian American Pacific Islander Student Union and has served on the Forum on Education Abroad’s Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Working Group, the NAFSA (National Association for Foreign Student Affairs) Diversity and Inclusion subcommittee, and the Diversity Abroad Foundations in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Task Force.
