What is the timeline for the project?

The project began this past summer 2024, with an expected completion in summer 2025.

What hours will construction take place?

Construction will begin at 7 a.m., ending at 5 p.m., Monday to Friday. In some cases, weekend work may be necessary to meet project deadlines. We will notify our community if weekend work is planned.

Will there be road closures or detours during this project?

No. The road off French Avenue into Elizabeth Hall will be closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic during the duration of this project.

A temporary sidewalk has been installed between Fox and Corrin Halls.

How will traffic be managed?

A flag person will be stationed at the construction entrance on French Avenue during high-traffic construction hours to direct traffic and avoid congestion or backups.

Where should ride-share services pick up or drop off during construction?

Ride-share services should use the south side of Elizabeth Hall, towards the lake.

How will noise and dust be managed?

Facilities Services and their partners will take several measures to minimize noise and dust, including scheduling noisy activities during less disruptive hours. However, some level of noise and dust is unavoidable in construction.

Will access to my residential hall be affected?

We do our best to maintain access to residential halls. Some temporary disruptions may be necessary. We will notify students in advance of disruptions.

How will the project affect utilities like water, electricity, and gas?

Utility disruptions will be kept to a minimum. We will provide advance notice, including the expected duration and any steps you should take. To minimize impact to residents and businesses, utility disruptions are planned for holiday breaks.

What happens if I notice damage to my property during construction?

If you experience a utility disruption off-campus, contact your utility provider immediately. On campus, contact Campus Safety to report any outages. Facilities will coordinate with utility companies to restore services as quickly as possible.

What safety measures are in place during construction?

Safety is our top priority. The construction site will be secured with appropriate barriers, and all workers are required to follow strict safety protocols. We ask the public to not enter the construction zone for their own safety. To aid circulation around the site, a new sidewalk has been installed between Elizabeth Hall and Fox/Corrin Hall, providing a safe pedestrian route during the duration of the project. Additionally, Wharton-Smith, the general contractor for the project, conducts regular safety checks on-site and performs background checks on all their employees to ensure a safe working environment.

What happens if I notice damage to my property during construction?

Report construction-related damage to Jennifer Annan, Project Manager, Facilities Services at 407-646-1065. We will investigate the issue and take appropriate action to resolve.

Will the volleyball and tennis courts be available during construction?

The volleyball and tennis courts are closed. The volleyball court has been permanently removed. New recreational tennis courts will be built as part of East End Neighborhood, available for the Rollins community upon completion.

What precautions should I take regarding my privacy during construction?

Residents of Fox, Corrin, and Elizabeth Hall are advised to close their binds when wanting privacy. The windows are in close proximity to the construction fence and job site.
