Smith ’22 ’24MPH Earns Alpha Sigma Lambda Scholarship

Elizabeth Smith ’22 ’24MPH is one of just 15 continuing education students nationwide to earn a scholarship through the organization.

Elizabeth Smith ’22 ’24MPH | Scott Cook

Music and communication double major and master’s of public health candidate Elizabeth Smith ’22 ’24MPH has earned a 2022-23 scholarship from Alpha Sigma Lambda, the oldest and largest national honor society for nontraditional learners. The $2,500 award will go toward supporting Smith’s efforts to complete her master’s degree through Rollins’ Hamilton Holt School.

With more than 300 chapters of the society representing colleges across the nation, Smith’s competition was steep. She beat out hundreds of candidates to take her place as one of just 15 awardees for the upcoming academic year. The rigorous application process included a personal essay and a detailed outline highlighting Smith’s personal and academic achievements. Smith worked closely with Rob Sanders, dean of the Hamilton Holt School, to secure a nomination and later, the scholarship itself.

“This award means so much to my family and me,” says Smith. “Not only does it provide financial support, but it also provides me a boost of confidence knowing a national honor society that values a love of knowledge, wisdom, and essence of life saw promise in my academic journey and future career.”
