Nancy Chick joins Rollins as the new director for the Endeavor Foundation Center for Faculty Development.
Nancy Chick began her tenure at Rollins on July 1, when Rollins’ Christian A. Johnson Institute for Effective Teaching was relaunched as the Endeavor Foundation Center for Faculty Development.
“Rollins was an early leader in establishing a teaching center at a liberal arts college. We had a bold vision that included supporting faculty scholarship of teaching and learning, an emerging field at the time,” says Susan Singer, vice president for academic affairs and provost. “As we relaunch our center under the leadership of Dr. Chick, we envision a next-generation center that provides wraparound support for the multiple dimensions of a faculty member’s professional life, teaching, scholarship, and service, over the arc of a career at Rollins.”
Chick is the founding co-editor of Teaching & Learning Inquiry, the journal of the International Society for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning, and has an international reputation as both a scholar of teaching and learning and a faculty developer. She holds a BA in English from the University of New Mexico and her MA and PhD degrees in English from the University of Georgia.
“I’m thrilled at the genuine interest in faculty development and the clear commitment to teaching and learning at Rollins,” says Chick. “In my short time here, I’ve experienced this goodwill and proactive support in every interaction with colleagues, students, and various offices across campus.”
Chick began her career in the University of Wisconsin Colleges, where she achieved the rank of full professor in the department of English and co-directed the Teaching Fellows and Scholars Program for the entire University of Wisconsin System. She then moved to Vanderbilt University and served as assistant director for the university’s Center for Teaching. Her most recent appointment was as academic director for the Taylor Institute for Teaching and Learning at the University of Calgary.
