At the annual SESDI conference in Wilmington, North Carolina, Rory Macleod ’22 ’24MBA recently presented findings from research that he conducted alongside business professor Serina Haddad. He won first place for the best graduate research project.
Macleod started working with Haddad in August 2021 to create statistics learning applets to improve statistics education. The project was funded by an internal grant Haddad received at Rollins for course development. The grant supported the design and development of learning applets using interactive digital learning modules to supplement learning experiences in statistics courses and improve their performance. The applets have unique features that provide students a mechanism by which they can select their initial level of preparedness and the opportunity for repeated unlimited solving sessions as needed, thus enhancing their learning, advancing their foundational base, and strengthening their design and critical thinking skills.
Macleod is currently working with Haddad on securing additional national funding to continue developing the applets and expanding their usage to other institutions, including high schools.
