Trustee Kathleen Rollins Provides Transformational Gift for Mills Memorial Hall Renovation
The renovated campus building, which is scheduled to open in fall 2019, will now be known as Kathleen W. Rollins Hall.

Rollins College Trustee Kathleen W. Rollins ’75 has committed $10 million to the major renovation of Mills Memorial Hall.
This transformational gift allows the College to breathe new life into a campus icon. With this generous commitment to her alma mater, the College will rename Mills Memorial Hall in Rollins’ honor. The building will now be known as Kathleen W. Rollins Hall.
“A huge part of me has always been at Rollins College,” says Rollins. “Now a part of me will always be here. I am thrilled to make this gift to continue the legacy of this great institution.”
With her gift, Rollins is helping the College she coincidentally shares a name with couple its liberal arts ethos with programs that enable students to put their education to work in the world. The renovated three-story facility, which is set to be completed in fall 2019, will house 10 curricular and co-curricular programs that showcase the College’s 21st-century liberal arts education in action. Kathleen W. Rollins Hall will be home to the following offices, centers, and programs:
- Center for Career & Life Planning
- Center for Leadership & Community Engagement
- Office of International Programs
- Office of International Student & Scholar Services
- Social Innovation & Entrepreneurship Hub
- Department of Social Entrepreneurship (academic major)
- Sustainability Program Student Workspace
- Office of External & Competitive Scholarship Advisement
- Business Advising
- Student Media
“We are thrilled that Kathleen’s experience at the College inspired her generous support for this landmark project,” says Rollins President Grant Cornwell. “Her gift will ensure that future generations of students realize their true potential as global citizens and responsible leaders, empowered to pursue meaningful lives and productive careers.”
As an undergraduate student, Rollins studied behavioral science and was an active member in her sorority, Chi Omega. She went on to earn a master’s degree in sociology from Georgia State University. Rollins now serves as executive director of the Gary W. Rollins Foundation and was elected to the Rollins College Board of Trustees in May 2018.

Coyle Discusses Rocket Launch Noise Research
Rollins physics professor Whitney Coyle’s research into the long-term impacts of rocket launches on nearby communities was featured on Academic Minute. The program, produced by NPR affiliate WAMC and hosted by Association of American Colleges & Universities President Lynn Pasquerella, airs on more than 70 NPR member stations across the country. “A rocket launch produces rumblings, vibrations, and high-intensity sound near the launch pad that can also travel to communities tens of miles away. My research focuses on how that sound propagates into communities near Cape Canaveral and how repeated launches may affect the local environment as launch cadence increases,” said Coyle.
