Sexuality, Women’s, and Gender Studies

The Sexuality, Women’s, and Gender Studies (SWAG) minor brings together research and activism, educating students to recognize social injustices and to create positive change in our local community and in the larger world.

About the Program

Sexuality, Women’s, and Gender Studies (SWAG) is an interdisciplinary field that emphasizes the core principles of intersectionality and social justice. Through courses offered across the academic disciplines, SWAG minors learn to employ a variety of methodological approaches, bringing together research and activism. The minor emphasizes an intersectional analysis of how race, class, gender, sexuality, ability, and other aspects of identity shape the experiences of individuals and groups.

Students learn to apply theoretical concepts to their own experience, to analyze structures of systemic privileges and oppressions, and to recognize the ways that identity categories shape knowledge and experience. We seek to educate students to recognize social injustices and to create positive change both in their local community and in the larger world.
