Martha C. Nussbaum—Professor, Ernst Freund Distinguished Service Professor of Law and Ethics, Department of Philosophy and Law School, The University of Chicago.—is recognized around the world for her work on moral and political theory, emotions, human rights, social equality, education, feminism, and Greek and Roman philosophy. Nussbaum delivered the 2017 Jefferson Lecture in the Humanities, the highest honor conferred by the federal government for distinguished intellectual achievement in the humanities, and is the recipient of the 2016 Kyoto Prize in Arts and Philosophy, widely considered the most prestigious award in fields not represented in the Nobel Prizes.

Her latest publication, The Monarchy of Fear: A Philosopher Looks at Our Political Crisis, is forthcoming July 3, 2018. Other publications include The New Religious Intolerance: Overcoming the Politics of Fear in an Anxious Age (2012), Philosophical Interventions: Book Reviews 1985-2011 (2012), Political Emotions: Why Love Matters for Justice (2013), and Anger and Forgiveness: Resentment, Generosity, Justice (2016).
