Pre-Health Professions Advising

Rollins College provides the required curricula for students planning careers in dentistry, medicine, veterinary medicine and allied health professions. Students may major in any discipline as long as they include in their curriculum the required core science courses. Small class sizes and rigorous curricula promote faculty-student interaction, resulting in strong applicants for health professions schools.

Personalized Health Professions Advising

The Health Professions Advisor provides guidance to students considering careers in dentistry, medicine, optometry, podiatry, veterinary medicine, and various allied health professions (physical therapy, occupational therapy, etc.).  Students are advised on course selection, professional school and health career options available, setting up internships and clinical experiences, and are given guidance on application procedures. The Health Professions Advisor maintains communications with regional health professional schools, the National Association of Advisors for the Health Professions, and the application services.

At the completion of the pre-health profession student’s junior year, the Health Professions Advisor, with the input of faculty evaluators, prepares a letter of evaluation in support of the application to professional school.  The evaluation is based on individual evaluations from faculty members, transcripts, information provided by the student, and any letters provided by health care professionals or others with knowledge of the applicant’s credentials.  The composite letter details the applicant’s qualifications to become a future health care provider.
