The Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) has named its 2018-19 All-Academic Sailing Team, and two Tars have made the cut. This year’s team is comprised of 200 members.

Business management and communication double major Nick Baker ’20 and international business major Teagan Walsh ’20 have been recognized by ICSA as collegiate sailors who have achieved excellence in national and interconference competition as well as excelling at the highest academic level for the 2018-19 academic year.

Baker and Walsh are co-captains of the co-ed varsity sailing team, and both hold leadership positions in their respective fraternity and sorority.

“It’s nice to be recognized by ICSA for working hard not just during all the regattas and practices, but in the classroom as well,” says Walsh. “Sailing reminds me every day to pursue what I love, and being part of the team at Rollins has given me confidence, personal growth, and relationships with amazing people.”

Honorees must be juniors or seniors, have at least a 3.3 cumulative GPA or higher on a 4.0 scale, and be a starter or key reserve in at least seven university-sponsored regattas. Led by Matt Lindblad, co-head coach at MIT, a committee comprised of representatives from conferences in the ICSA evaluates the nominated sailors.

“The professors and coaches at Rollins really care and focus on the individual student,” says Baker, “and they’ve taught me so much about responsibility and commitment.”

Among the competitions for the 2018-19 season was the Match Racing Nationals in Newport Beach, California, and the Singlehanded Nationals in Holland, Michigan.
