The Tutoring and Writing Center has shifted to virtual, synchronous learning for spring 2020. We remain committed to our mission and to fulfilling our role in the Rollins community as a place where students can come together to become more effective, independent learners. Even if we’re miles apart, we’re still in this together.

On this page you can find important information about what will be different (and what will be the same) in our temporary move to all-virtual, synchronous tutoring.

  • Appointments will be conducted via WebEx
  • Our tutors will NOT conduct asynchronous sessions (they will not respond to questions or requests for feedback via email and they will not email you feedback on a paper or correct an assignment for you).
  • All appointment times are in Eastern Standard Time.
  • We are temporarily suspending our drop-in hours while we implement virtual appointments. Stay tuned for more information.

Since classes are also using WebEx, we hope this platform will soon feel like a familiar, comfortable learning environment for all of us. Below is some information about navigating the platform and making use of its collaboration functions. We also recommend checking out this super helpful page on Student Technology Resources for Remote Learning and IT's knowledge base on WebEx

  • As before, we will still use EAB Navigate for scheduling and reporting on appointments.
  • Our previous policies are still in place:
    • appointments must be made at least 18 hours in advance
    • if you need to cancel an appointment, please do so at least 18 hours in advance as well so that you are not marked as a no-show
  • If you are a graduate student, please email our Associate Coordinator, Mistie Watkins ( for EAB access OR you can email one of our graduate tutors directly to set up an appointment (please note - only graduate students and graduate tutors are able to schedule appointments via email):

  • At least 10 minutes before the start time of your appointment, you will receive an email from your tutor/consultant that will include a link to their personal meeting room in WebEx.
  • Before your session begins, please have any links or files you need to share ready to go. If you want to share a file within WebEx, the files need to be open already on your computer. OR you can share a link to a viewable/editable Google doc or Word doc in the WebEx chat.
  • Be ready to connect your audio AND video. Using all the communication functions of WebEx will help make your session as productive as possible. If your internet connection does not support video conferencing, you can still use your audio or "call in" to the meeting on your phone.

  • With your tutor, you will begin by setting an agenda for your virtual session. It can be helpful if you have a specific goal or set of questions in mind that you'd like to discuss during your session.
  • Your tutor will ask questions, offer options and suggestions, and connect you to other helpful resources.
  • At the end of your session, your tutor will discuss some concrete next steps that you can complete independently in order to work towards your goals.

Please note: your tutor is only permitted to provide feedback during your appointment time.
