  4. Schedule appointments with Writing Consultants!

Our tutors typically have 8-12 hours per week of availability (which may consist of a combination of appointments and open, drop-in tutoring). They may request additional hours at the discretion of the Coordinator or Associate Coordinator. However, this limit exists to respect the fact that our tutors are students too who often have additional leadership roles and responsibilities here on campus and elsewhere.

Because our tutors have limited availability, we also must set some limits on how frequently individual students can make appointments in the TWC. Students can schedule up to two hours of writing consultations and two hours of content tutoring per week. However, you can also schedule up to 15 appointments in advance, so if you anticipate visiting the TWC frequently, you can schedule several sessions well ahead of time. Our open, drop-in hours do not have an attendance limit.

Because our schedule tends to fill up quickly, we ask that appointments be cancelled 18 hours in advance.

To cancel an appointment, log in to EAB, look for your appointment in the Calendar, and click "Cancel Appointment" at the bottom of the pop-up box.

If you cancel on the same day as your appointment or miss your appointment, no other students can meet with the tutor at that time. To protect our tutors' time and to help ensure that students who want an appointment in the TWC can get one, we have a strict policy regarding missed appointments:
  • 1 no-show and/or same-day cancellation: You will get a warning email.
  • 2 no-shows and/or same-day cancellations: You will be locked out of the TWC schedule in EAB. Contact Mistie Watkins to discuss options for restoring your scheduling permissions.

The TWC is closed (meaning appointments will be automatically cancelled) when the College is closed, including on Fox Day.

Our writing consultants and tutors are happy to work with you on a collaborative project, but we do ask that all members of the group are present for the session. Please indicate on your appointment report form that you are working on a group assignment and include the names of your group members.

Our tutors and writing consultants are not permitted to work with you on a take home exam or quiz unless you have received express permission from your professor to do so. If you have gotten this permission, please have your professor notify Layne Gordon or Mistie Watkins before your tutoring session. This policy upholds the Rollins College academic honor code, which states: “On my honor, I have not given, nor received, nor witnessed any unauthorized assistance on this work.”
