Endeavor Foundation Center for Faculty Development

New Faculty

Rollins College is committed to supporting its new faculty members -- both full-time (i.e. tenure-track, visitors, lecturers) and part-time faculty (i.e. adjuncts).  All of the Endeavor Center's regular activities (see the schedule in MyRollins) are open to full-time and part-time faculty -- unless otherwise noted, as in programming for pre-tenured faculty working towards tenure or other specific cohorts.

Welcome Resources

The Welcome Resources page from the Dean of the College of Liberal Arts offers a collection of links for faculty pre-arrival and onboarding tasks.

New Full-Time Faculty

The Endeavor Center facilitates programming to welcome, orient, and support each cohort of new full-time faculty.

New Faculty Orientation

New Faculty Orientation (NFO), which takes place the week before each fall semester, is designed to welcome new full-time faculty to campus and prepare them for their first semester of classes. The 2023 schedule is below:

  • Mon, Aug 14, 9am-3:30pm
  • Wed, Aug 16, 9am-3:30pm
  • Fri, Aug 18, 9am-3:30pm

Additional important faculty activities that week include the following:

  • Sun, Aug 13, 5:30-7pm:  The night before NFO begins, President Grant Cornwell hosts a dinner for the new faculty at his home, so please reserve that time. Because of the size of this new cohort, please come on your own (i.e., no guests or plus ones).  Details will come in August.
  • Tue, Aug 15, 8am-noon: CLA Faculty Retreat at the Alfond Inn
  • Tue, Aug 15, 3:15-4:45: your Human Resources orientation in Bieberbach-Reed Conference Room in the Cornell Campus Center (Quadrant D1, Building 325 on this map).
  • Thu, Aug 17: Today is reserved for department activities. (Not all departments will meet. Check with your Chair.)

Access a printable PDF of the detailed schedule for all of the above here.

New Faculty Meetings (Monthly)

These monthly meetings will take place throughout a new faculty member's first academic year, to provide them with ongoing support, development, and opportunities to connect with key partners across campus.  The 2023 meetings will occur on the following Thursdays during the Common Hour (12:30-1:45pm):

  • Fall:  Sept 7, Oct 19, Nov 2, Dec 7
  • Spring: Feb 1, March 21, April 4, May 2

Mentoring

The Rollins Mentoring Neighborhood is a collaborative group of 8 to 10 faculty members representing different ranks, disciplines, identities, and strengths.  Together, they will serve as a mentoring network to the 2023 cohort of new full-time faculty for the 2023-24 academic year. The Mentoring Neighborhood is coordinated by Jenny Queen, the Maher Chair of Distinguished Teaching and Professor of Psychology.
