Communication Studies
Providing students with the tools to understand how communication functions, how we use it to create meaning, and how to interpret the messages we receive.
Overview
Communication Studies focuses on how people use messages to generate meanings within and across various contexts, cultures, channels, and media. The field promotes the effective and ethical practice of human communication. Our mission is to produce well-rounded communicators who are capable of speaking and listening effectively, thinking critically, and writing clearly.
Major
The Communication Studies major requires ten (10) courses. Majors select a concentration of specialization in one of three critical areas:
- Organizational Communication and Leadership

Minor
The minor in Communication Studies requires six (6) courses including: two (2) Core courses: COM 100, COM 210, and four (4) elective courses, with at least two (2) courses at the 300-level.
