Crummer Professor Greg Marshall to Receive Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Marketing Association

WINTER PARK, FL (May 15, 2018) – The Crummer Graduate School of Business at Rollins College today announced that Dr. Greg W. Marshall, the School’s Charles Harwood Professor of Marketing and Strategy, will receive the 2018 Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Marketing Association (AMA) Selling and Sales Management Special Interest Group (Sales SIG). This annual award honors the outstanding scholar who has made meaningful contributions over a long period of time to the field of sales through publications in top journals, teaching excellence, fostering professional development among academics and practitioners, and contributing broadly to thought leadership in the area of sales.

“Dr. Marshall has long been at the forefront of global marketing research and scholarship, and Crummer students have greatly benefited from his knowledge and industry experience,” said Crummer Dean Deborah Crown, PhD. “We are very proud of his many achievements—including this venerable award from the AMA—and consider ourselves fortunate to have him as an esteemed member of the Crummer faculty.”

Besides his faculty post at the Crummer School, Dr. Marshall also serves as Academic Director of the Executive DBA program. He is Honorary Professor of Marketing and Strategy at Aston Business School in Birmingham, England and is Editor-in-Chief of the European Journal of Marketing, one of the top-ranked marketing journals in the world. For three years he also served as Vice President for Strategic Marketing for Rollins College, creating the first organization-wide marketing capability for the school. He was previously on the faculty at Oklahoma State University, the University of South Florida, and Texas Christian University.

Prior to his doctoral work, Dr. Marshall’s managerial industry experience includes 13 years with companies such as Warner Lambert, Mennen, and Target Corporation. He also has considerable experience as a consultant and trainer for a variety of organizations. He has been heavily involved for many years in teaching in MBA and Executive MBA programs, as well as teaching and mentoring doctoral students around the world. His primary teaching focus at all these levels is on strategy-related topics in courses such as Strategic Marketing, Strategy Essentials, Advanced Strategy Applications, and Selling and Sales Management. He received the Outstanding Marketing Teachers’ Award from the Academy of Marketing Science based on his work over the years in MBA education. While at Oklahoma State, he received the Chandler-Frates Teaching Award, in which the working MBA students recognize the top professor in their program. In 2005 he received the Cornell Distinguished Faculty Award in the Crummer Graduate School of Business at Rollins College. And in 2012 he was the recipient of the Bornstein Award for Faculty Scholarship, which each year recognizes one faculty member at Rollins whose outstanding scholarly achievement or creative accomplishment has helped to bring national prominence to the College.

Dr. Marshall is former editor of the Journal of Marketing Theory and Practice and Journal of Personal Selling & Sales Management, for which he now serves on their Senior Advisory Boards. He is a member of the editorial review boards of the Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, AMS Review, Industrial Marketing Management, and Journal of Business Research. He has published over 50 refereed journal articles and is ranked #2 in total number of refereed article appearances in the history of the Journal of Personal Selling & Sales Management. In addition to his work in the scholarly journals, Dr. Marshall also contributes to the field of marketing through his co-authorship of several textbooks that are widely used around the world: Marketing Management (McGraw-Hill), Sales Force Management (Routledge), Contemporary Selling (Routledge), and Marketing: Real People, Real Choices (Pearson).

At the American Marketing Association, Dr. Marshall presently serves on the Board of Directors and is a member of its Audit and Finance Committee. He is Past President of the AMA Academic Council. He also is a Distinguished Fellow and Past President of the Academy of Marketing Science, a Distinguished Fellow and Past President of the Society for Marketing Advances, and a Fellow and a member of the Academic Advisory Council of the Direct Selling Education Foundation.

The Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to Dr. Marshall during the 2018 AMA Summer Academic Conference in Boston, Massachusetts this August. As a way to honor Dr. Marshall's lifetime achievement award, the AMA Sales SIG is asking interested individuals to consider donating to his favorite charity, Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida.
