Still Moving That Mountain: Feminism Past and Future

A series of panel discussions with Gloria Steinem, former Congresswoman Patricia Schroeder and 12 leading representatives from Veteran Feminists of America (VFA), the Rollins Feminist Forum presents a conversation between longtime feminist activists and Rollins students who’ll discuss the movement’s past, present and future.

Still Moving That Mountain: Feminism, Past and Future

In the 45th anniversary of the Modern Women’s Movement and the founding of the National Organization of Women (NOW), Rollins College is hosting a celebration of feminism’s rich history, a discussion of its current state, and a dialogue about collective hopes for the future.

The Rollins Feminist Forum features a keynote address by activist and author Gloria Steinem, a conversation between Ms. Steinem and former congresswoman Patricia Schroeder, panel discussions highlighting twelve leading representatives from Veteran Feminists of America, student-led presentations of oral history projects, and a performance by The Guerrilla Girls on Tour!

In three interactive discussion sessions, twelve veteran feminists will speak about their roles in one of the most wide-ranging political movements of 20th century America. These remarkable women have been instrumental in “moving that mountain” for female reproductive rights, political participation, employment opportunities and equal pay, sexual autonomy, educational parity, and legal equality. They will join with young women of Rollins to discuss their independent research on the significance of VFA activists’ under-told narratives. Session discussions will also relate past gains to current feminist work on sex, gender, and orientation issues.

Sessions are free and open to all.  The forum is supported by the Rollins Women’s Studies Program, Rollins Winter Park Institute, the Lucy Cross Center for Women and their Allies, the Department of Philosophy and Religion, The Department of Art and Art History, and Cornell Fine Arts Museum.
