Kay Ryan, Thursday January 28th, 2010

Twice a Poet Laureate, Kay Ryan will participate in a discussion about poetry during the Master Class portion of her visit to Rollins College, January 28.

The discussion will take place in Bush Auditorium at 4 p. m. At 8 she will give a reading of her poetry in Tiedtke Hall and participate in a Q & A with the audience. Kay Ryan has published several collections of poetry, including The Niagara River, The Jam Jar Lifeboat & Other Novelties Exposed, Say Uncle, Elephant Rocks, Flamingo Watching, Strangely Marked Metal, and Dragon Acts to Dragon Ends. The Best of It: New and Selected Poems will be published by Grove Press in spring 2010.

Winter With the Writers has a venerable history in the community. Over the years, the series has recognized the great tradition of writers in Florida, hosting Harry Crews, Debra Frasier, Padgett Powell, Tim Dorsey, and Connie May Fowler, to name just a few. This unique program features Master Classes, author readings, and on-stage interviews with the finest artists in contemporary literature. Authors have included David Halbersham, Dana Goia, Harry Crews, Richard Ford, Kaye Gibbons, Mary Karr, Edward P. Jones, Michael Ondaatje,Tobias Wolff, Nathan Englander, Nikki Giovanni, Dorothy Allison, Billy Collins, Derek Walcott, Jamaica Kincaid, Michael Cunningham, and Ernest Gaines.
