van den Berg Returns to Read to Rollins Audience

Laura van den Berg a graduate of the Holt school and the daughter of Caroline Merritt and Egerton van den Berg, returned October 22 to Rollins College to read from what the world will look like when all the water leaves us, her first collection of stories.

Book SigningThe book contains work reprinted in Best Non-Required Reading 2008, Best New American Voices 2010, and The Pushcart Prizes 2010. The author was raised in Florida and earned her MFA at Emerson College. The door to writing fiction, she told the overflowing audience in Cornell Fine Arts Museum, was opened for her in various creative writing classes at Holt. Laura read a portion of the title story, answered questions, and signed books. A second signing occurred a day later at her mother’s home in Winter Park.

Caroline Merritt and Egerton van den Berg established a scholarship fund to award an outstanding Holt student writer and intern for Winter With the Writers. Last year’s recipient was Deyon Williams.
