11th Grader, Boone High School
Mike is a Junior at Boone High School, and the winner of the NextStep Super Teen contest. Not only is Biology Mike's favorite subject, but it is the subject that he excels most in. One of his activities outside of school that he is most proud of is surfing. One of his biggest challenges that he has had to face was transitioning between multiple foster homes. At the age of 7, when Mike realized these transitions were only temporary, he told himself that he would eventually go back to his parents. One of Mike's greatest achievements was, and is, his disciplinary development at a young age. He has learned how to be a productive worker, save money, and take advantage of education and the opportunities it offers. After graduation, Mike plans to pursue his interest in engineering or becoming a business owner.

Krista’s love for reading is so intense that she spends all day reading books, and then spends the rest of her week re-reading those same books.
“I plan to major in Biology in college; mainly Marine Biology. I have always loved sea life and thought it interesting to find out how they live. After I graduate I would love to travel the coasts of the world researching marine species and maybe discovering a new one.”

Janee is a Junior at Oak Ridge High School with a 3.37 GPA. Although Math is not Janee's favorite subject in school, Math is the subject that she excels most in. She does not have a "favorite" subject, but she still maintains high academic performance. Instead of participating in activities after school, Janee devotes her time to studying for her classes. The biggest challenges she has had to face in school were final exams. Janee's tactic for overcoming these final exams is simply studying. Her greatest achievement thus far is her development in becoming a more mature and responsible person. Janee is very shy when people first get to know her, but when she gets comfortable, she is very open and outgoing. She plans to enter into a 4-year university and major in Journalism.
