Voyagers CLUSTERS?
The cluster is a predetermined two-course morning schedule for Voyagers (completed Kindergarten and 1st grade). The afternoon courses are selected by the camper's parents.
Historically, the Voyagers attended camp for a half day. Several years ago Summer Camp changed its policy to allow voyagers to spend the entire day at camp. However, after observing the voyagers in action for a few years, the Camp Leadership team has determined that voyagers need more time with peers and a period of acclimation to remain alert and cheerful for an extended day.
Voyagers are social and like to have fun. Due to their age and size, voyagers take a bit longer to move from place to place on campus; thus, "clustering" them the first two hours allows for them to stay together as a group.
The pre-determined morning cluster schedule eliminates the morning transition with Trailblazers and Pathfinders which is overwhelming and tiresome for the voyagers since they tire easily carrying of backpacks, rackets, water bottles, towels, etc.
Each cluster has teachers who collaborate and regularly assigned camp counselors who stay with the children to sustain a sense of familiarity giving them an additional sense of belonging. Having regular counselors also help the voyagers build relationships with the rest of the campers later in the day.
