Rollins Students

Congratulations to All Campus Events (ACE)/Rally Rollins for receiving the 2010-2011 Student Initiatives Grant!

The Rollins Alumni Association’s purpose is to support and advance Rollins by keeping our alumni connected for life. The Alumni Association is committed to developing the alumni experience by partnering with the College to support the alumni life cycle, starting with the student experience, carrying forward through the transition from college, and developing over a lifetime.

The Alumni Association Student Initiatives Grant is one of the many ways that alumni give back to support Rollins and benefit current students. On behalf of the Alumni Association, the Alumni Association Board of Directors will award up to $3,000 in grants during the 2010-2011 academic year. Registered student organizations may apply for these grants at the start of the fall semester. The two main focal areas for this year’s grants align with the Board’s strategic priorities to partner with Career Services and Athletics. Students are encouraged to select one of these focal areas for a proposal that enhances student life, supports academic excellence, and/or promotes tradition while also reconnecting alumni to the College and increasing interaction among students and alumni.

We hope you will take advantage of this exciting opportunity with the Alumni Association to educate and enrich students and alumni. Read on to learn about past Student Initiatives Grant recipients and how the programs these student organizations have brought to campus helped enhance our shared community.

Rollins Players

In October 2008, Rollins Players hosted Christopher Fitzgerald '95, a Tony award nominated Broadway actor, on-campus for "Puttin' on the Fitz," a talkback-style Q&A session where Fitzgerald shared his experiences in theater while at Rollins and on Broadway. During his visit, Fitzgerald gave students a taste of the Broadway life, engaging them in dynamic conversations in and outside of the classroom. Visit Rollins Magazine online for the full story.

Student Government Association (SGA)

SGA and the Alumni Association Board of Directors teamed up during Reunion 2010 in March to host the inaugural "Lunch on the Lawn" event, providing the opportunity for alumni and students to gather together for lunch and conversation under the Mills Lawn tent. Lady Tars Crossover

The Lady Tars Crossover project, founded by former basketball player Ines Teuma '09, sponsored its second youth basketball camp in Teuma's home of Cameroon in summer 2008. In addition to the Alumni Association Board of Directors, other supporters include Rollins Athletics, Office of Community Engagement, Office of Student Involvement and Leadership, Knowles Memorial Chapel and the Winter Park community.

Dance Marathon

Since 2007, Rollins' largest and most successful student-run philanthropy, Dance Marathon, has raised nearly $80,000 for Children's Miracle Network and affiliate hospitals Arnold Palmer Hospital for Women and Children in Orlando and the Shand's Children's Hospital at University of Florida. In 2008, Dance Marathon utilized its Student Initiatives Grant to host its second annual 12-hour event, including non-stop dancing, music, games, food, entertainment and special appearances by families and children who have benefitted from Children's Miracle Network. To learn more about Rollins' Dance Marathon and its fall 2009 event, visit the News Center online.

All Campus Events (ACE)

A student activities board charged with coordinating student activities and entertainment programs throughout the academic year, ACE provides exciting student entertainment in a safe environment through its Friday night event series "Rollins After Dark."
