On September 6, 2012 Rollins made a commitment to change. Changemaker Campus Day celebrated Rollins' leadership and commitment to ideals of social change. In addition to a community celebration, the day provided abundant opportunities to engage in local and global movements for social and environmental change. Watch a video showing highlights from the day.
The Changemaker Campus designation, awarded by Ashoka U, is a reflection of Rollins' interdisciplinary and campus-wide commitment to actualizing our mission of educating for global citizenship and responsible leadership. Ashoka U is the world's leading association of academic institutions working to advance the field of social entrepreneurship. Changemaker Campus Day was established on September 6, 2012 in recognition of this distinguished honor and Rollins' commitment to social progress. Ceremony hosts included President Lewis Duncan and Board of Trustees Chairman David Lord. Featured guests included Marina Kim, Executive Director of Ashoka U and Nicholas Kristof, Pulitzer Prize winner and The New York Times columnist.
At 1 PM on that day a dedication ceremony was held at Tars Plaza in the center of Rollins' campus to officially welcome Rollins into the Changemaker Campus Consortium. An Oak Tree was planted in the honor of "changemaking" and continues to grow on Rollins' campus, just as our commitment to Changemakers continues to grow.
