Living Learning Communities

One of the greatest challenges facing new college students is becoming part of a new community while also accepting all the responsibilities of independence that come their way. Living Learning Communities (LLCs) increase the academic, social and residential connection among first-year students while fostering independence within a supportive academic residential community.

All first-year students take a Rollins College Conference (RCC) course, which is an academic seminar that includes added attention to integrating and engaging first-year learning through peer mentorship and campus exploration. In addition to the RCC course, Living Learning Community students will live together in the same residence hall, meet together in that hall to share reading, assignments, presentations, discussions, and other academic programming designed by their faculty and peer educators. Some will have classes just down the hall from their room, or be neighbors to our faculty in residence, Dr. MacKenzie Moon Ryan, in Ward Hall. The other first-year residential halls are McKean, Strong 220 and 221 and Rex Beach.

The Living Learning Communities events bridge the academic and the social in efforts to enhance personal connections and investment between faculty, students, residential life staff, and student peer mentors. Large-scale events unite our entire community of LLCs, while smaller offerings bring together neighbors, classmates, and friends to nurture relationships, support personal growth, and aid academic achievement.
