When you visit a long beloved spot, it’s easy to feel a wave of nostalgia sweep over you. And the best of times are easily recalled when you’re surrounded by friends both old and new.
Now in its second year as part of the Reunion Weekend, Lunch on the Lawn continued to be an opportunity for alumni to reconnect. Diners enjoyed the clear, bright Florida afternoon on Friday, March 25 beneath the shade of a large tent pavilion while listening to music provided by Rollins’ nationally ranked radio station, WPRK.
“What a great way to start the weekend!” said Tom duPont (Class of 1970).
In an effort to create lasting alumni-student connections, Lunch on the Lawn partnered with Rollins Cares to provide students, faculty and staff the opportunity to mingle with alumni in an informal atmosphere. Created by the Student Success and Retention Initiative Task Force, Rollins Cares is a campus-wide, grass-roots movement that is working to draw everyone's attention to think about the College and what matters most—our students and our community. Rollins Cares is working to collaborate with all areas of campus to build campus pride and help make greater connections to the many incredible aspects of our community.
As part of that effort to build pride, clusters of alumni from class years ending in the numbers 1 and 6 joined students in recollecting their favorite Rollins stories. Students, alumni, faculty and staff were also encouraged to stop by the Rollins Cares table to share their favorite campus traditions.
“The campus still brings back old memories,” said Tom Sacha (Class of 1967 ’70MBA). “I always tell folks, if they want to feel young again, just walk around campus.”
Rollins’ alumni spent the remainder of the weekend touring the campus and reminiscing with other alumni at the many Reunion events.
