Tommy the Tar Attended 17th Annual Celebrity Mascot Games

July 16, 2009

In the name of charity and friendly competition, Rollins’ beloved mascot, Tommy the Tar, left the Winter Park campus to join the ranks of such mascots as the Orlando Magic’s Stuff the Magic Dragon, the University of Central Florida's Knightro, and the University of Florida’s Albert E. and Alberta Gator July 16-18 at the 17th Annual Celebrity Mascot Games.

More than 30 mascots from collegiate and professional sports teams across the country divided into four teams of seven mascots and competed against one another during three shows that took place at both Amway Arena and Stetson University.

All proceeds from the Celebrity Mascot Games benefited New Hope for Kids, an Orlando-based not-for-profit organization that grants wishes to children under the age of 18 suffering from life-threatening illnesses. Since its inception, New Hope has granted more than 3,000 wishes, focusing on the children of Central Florida. This event has raised nearly $250,000 for New Hope for Kids since the first Mascot Games in 1992.
