On Monday, October 18, Rollins kicked off this year’s Helping Hands Across America campaign at the Cornell Campus Center.
Last year Rollins collected a total of 12,293 pounds of food, ranking the College #4 among the many Sodexo USA colleges and universities involved in the campaign. This year, Sodexo and Rollins have partnered with the Winter Park Chamber of Commerce to make the canned food drive more far-reaching. The goal this year is to collect 20,000 pounds of non-perishable food to be donated to the local Second Harvest Food Bank.
“We are thrilled to support this great cause,” said Patrick Chapin, president of the Winter Park Chamber of Commerce. “In addition to getting our members involved, the Chamber of Commerce has decided to forego our normal holiday kick-off party this year and, instead, will be having a special event where all proceeds go to benefit Helping Hands. Everyone is really excited and we know, with the wonderful leadership of Rollins and Sodexo, that we will end up #1 this year in the amount of canned food collected!”
Please consider making a donation of $5, $10, $20 or $100 to help Rollins reach its goal. Donations can be made at all dining locations using TarBuc$, cash, credit and debit cards and on-line (www.rollins.edu/osil/helpinghands). 100 percent of the money collected will go to purchase food to be donated to Second Harvest Food Bank, and be distributed right here in our own community.
The food drive will run from October 18 – November 12.
