|Class of 2009 Valedictorian Jenna Mielzynksi|
Rollins' Class of 2009 Valedictorian Jenna Mielzynski knew Rollins was a great fit for her from the start.
Originally from Caledon, Ontario, Mielzynski looked for colleges in warmer climates that allowed her to water ski year-round. Since Mielzynski knew she wanted to study the sciences, she eventually majored in biochemistry/molecular biology. Rollins' challenging course work and smaller size appealed to her.
"The professors at Rollins have been awesome," said Mielzynski. "I enjoyed the one-on-one interaction and discussion-based classes."
One of Rollins' top water skiers, Mielzynski competed with the Canadian National Team since high school and will compete this summer in the 2009 World Games in Taiwan.
In addition to her success on the water and in the classroom, Mielzynski's favorite Rollins experience was the "Athletics of the Ancient World" intersession in Greece. In December 2008 and January 2009, she and her classmates traveled to Greece with Associate Professor of Physical Education Gordie Howell.
"That course immersed us in past and present of Greece," she said. "It was a wonderful experience."
Mielzynski, who graduated with a 4.0 GPA, plans to take a year off prior to applying to dental schools in Canada. You can watch her commencement speech here.
