The Cornell Courtyard Café is a popular stop for a quick bite to eat or a meal. It’s also where Juana Cosme serves up sandwiches and square pizzas with a bubbly, can-do energy. Whether it’s ladling out soup or decorating the café for Halloween, Juana is always eager to lend a helping hand.
Juana has been working at Rollins since 2006 and formerly made omelettes in the campus center. “
She goes out of her way to help, and she makes it look easy,” praises supervisor Pat Shaw. The work is fun for Juana, who is looking forward to dressing up as a witch on the job in celebration of the upcoming holiday. She enthusiastically went the extra mile and ‘smocked’ the black counter covers so they would fit the spooky theme.
“I love it. Everyone is so gentle, so nice, so easy to please,” she said when asked about the café.
Pointing out the emptying food racks she says that everyone, students and professors alike love the food. So what’s her favorite? All of it of course! The quiche is wonderful, but they’ve been adding to the pizza. If you ask her, the dressings are very important. For instance, the café makes its own mayonnaise, sometimes mixing in bleu cheese and that makes a big difference.
The one thing that she wants the campus to know is that everyone is always welcome and that she and her co-workers want what’s best for their customers. And she wants to make sure the customers are happy.
