Rollins has been named to the 2013 President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll with Distinction by the Corporation for National and Community Service(CNCS).

This marks the sixth consecutive year the College received national recognition for its dedication to volunteering, service-learning, and civic engagement.

Rollins students contributed more than 37,050 volunteer hours last year in education, health, and disaster relief projects. Service-learning projects include:

• Mentoring elementary-school students
• Constructing homes
• Environmental stewardship
• International medical outreach and health advocacy
• Advocating for migrant farmworker rights

About the President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll

• Recognizes higher education institutions that reflect the values of exemplary community service and achieve meaningful outcomes in their communities.
• Founded in 2006 and inspired by the thousands of college students who traveled across the country to support relief efforts along the Gulf Coast after Hurricane Katrina
• A total of 690 higher education institutions were named to this year’s Honor Roll and of them, 113 received distinction.
• Of these awardees, five institutions were selected as Presidential Winners, the highest honor a college or university can receive.
• In 2011, the College was among one of six schools named as a Presidential Award recipient.

On campuses across the country, millions of college students are engaged in innovative projects to meet local needs, often using the skills learned in classrooms. Combined, the Honor Roll awardees engaged 3.1 million students in community service for a total of 118 million service hours, generating 2.5 billion dollars in value to communities across the country. 

“Rollins commitment to community continues to be recognized on both state and national levels,” said Micki Meyer, director of community engagement. “This commitment is the heart of our mission and exemplifies an applied liberal arts education in action. This recognition also celebrates members and organizations in our community such as schools, agencies, and non-profits that we are privileged to work with closely everyday in joint efforts for social change and progress.”

About the Corporation for National and Community Service
CNCS oversees the Honor Roll in collaboration with theU.S. Departments of Education and Housing and Urban Development, Campus Compact, and the American Council on Education. Honorees are chosen based on a series of selection factors, including the scope and innovation of service projects, the extent to which service-learning is embedded in the curriculum, the school’s commitment to long-term campus-community partnerships, and measurable community outcomes as a result of the service.
