Two Bachelor’s Degrees in Four Years

February 04, 2013

In order to prepare students for challenges in today’s global economy, Rollins recently announced the creation of the Dual Degree Program (DDP), a four-year program that partners with one of the leading business schools in Germany. The program is currently accepting a limited number of applications and will launch in fall 2013.

Designed to offer one of the most comprehensive international business educations available, this program allows Rollins students to graduate with two bachelor’s degrees in four years with an understanding of the global marketplace, fluency in English and German, and practical business skills acquired during a semester-long, full-time, international internship in Germany.

This true cross-cultural experience will offer students the breadth and depth of a liberal arts-focused B.A. (Bachelor of Arts) in international business from Rollins and a B.S. (Bachelor of Science) in international management from Reutlingen University, located in the southern German state of Baden-Württemberg.

“For our students interested in gaining real global experience, this new Dual Degree Program offers several benefits, such as fluency in German and having access to diverse student populations, international faculty, and broad alumni networks in two countries and on two continents,” said Associate Professor of International Business Marc Fetscherin.

With about a $3.4-trillion economy in 2012, Germany is the fourth largest economy in the world (after the U.S., China, and Japan) and the largest in Europe. Rollins’ is the only undergraduate dual degree program in Florida providing an opportunity like this one. This is relevant as Florida's bilateral trade with Germany is around $2.6 billion and Germany invests around $4.1 billion in Florida annually. German companies employ around 22,000 people in Florida; Siemens alone employs around 5,000 in the metro Orlando area.

Founded in 1979, Reutlingen University’s European School of Business (ESB) is one of Germany's largest and leading international business schools, and one of the first state institutions to offer integrated international dual degrees. At ESB-Reutlingen, 49 internationally renowned companies serve as partners and sponsors.

Students will spend their first four semesters at Rollins, followed by three semesters in Germany, where they will work their full-time internship. Students will then return to Rollins for their last semester.
