Women's Soccer Team Earns a Bid for NCAA Tournament

November 12, 2009

Rollins SoccerThe Tars women’s soccer team claimed the 2009 Sunshine State Conference (SSC) regular season and tournament championship titles.

The Tars grasped the tournament title by defeating Florida Southern on November 8. This prestigious title gives them an automatic bid into the NCAA Division II Tournament. Last year was the first time in program history the team got a bid.

“The program has certainly evolved throughout the course of four years, and I undoubtedly feel blessed to have been apart of such success,” said Jessica Mooney (Class of 2010).

Many of the Tars were given individual awards at the SSC Tournament. Ali Schrader (Class of 2013) earned the Tournament Most Outstanding Player honors for her winning goal on Sunday against Florida Southern. Meagan Thomas (Class of 2011) was awarded the SSC Defensive Player of the Year award. Other All-Tournament Team winners for the Tars include midfielder Jessica Mooney (Class of 2010), defender Charlotte Murrell (Class of 2012), and goalkeeper Michelle Dillingham (Class of 2012).

Because of its last two successful seasons, Rollins will host part of the NCAA tournament. On November 12, Florida Tech and St. Leo University will play at Rollins’ Cahall-Sanspur Field, for the first game in the region’s NCAA tournament bracket. The winner will play the Tars on Saturday, November 14 at 7 p.m. at Cahall-Sandspur Field.

Come out and support the Tars in this national tournament!
