Campus Spotlight: Megan Lanier

November 11, 2009

Megan lanierThe first student recipient of the Campus Spotlight is Megan Lanier, director of Dance Marathon. Lanier started off as the morale director for the event during freshman year and has been involved ever since.

A 3/2 student, she majored in English and hopes to apply her skills in the nonprofit sector after graduation. She says that the Crummer Graduate School of Business is a very different experience from her classes in the College of Arts & Sciences (A&S), “in a good way.” The hardest part has been keeping the balance between her involvement in Crummer and in senior year A&S activities.

When researching schools, Lanier learned about Rollins almost by accident. One of her friends declared she was applying here, and Lanier decided that she’d apply too so they could stick together. After checking out the Web site and paying the campus a visit, she fell in love with the school.

Dance Marathon focuses on awareness in the Spring semester, and more on fundraising in the Fall term.  The 12-hour Dance Marathon will to be held on November  14 from 2 p.m. to 2 a.m. in Cornell Campus Center. There will be lots of music, dancing, food and fun for all. Proceeds benefit the Greater Orlando Children’s Miracle Network, which uses the funds for medical care, research, and education for 17 million children each year. Directing the event keeps Megan on her toes- she is always giving out information and reminders about the events.

The one thing that she wants everyone to know is that, “It’s really important…to put a face to the name [in community engagement].”
