Helping Hands Across America Kickoff

October 20, 2009

HelpingCalling all Rollins students, faculty, and staff!

Join President Duncan and representatives from Second Harvest Food Bank at the kickoff for the 2009 Helping Hands Across America on Thursday, October 22 at 12:15 p.m. in the Cornell Campus Center Dining Hall.

Helping Hands Across America is a nationwide canned goods drive sponsored annually by Sodexo, Rollins’ dining services provider. More than 1,000 Sodexo accounts throughout the country will be working alongside each other to collect donations in their area as part of a monumental effort to provide relief to those in need during these challenging economic times.

“Every can collected and every dollar raised though our school benefits the local non-profit Second Harvest Food Bank,” said Jayme Bartlett, marketing coordinator for Sodexo at Rollins. “We want to focus on how Rollins can partner with this organization to improve our Central Florida community. Let’s all roll up our sleeves, generate excitement, and get involved!”

Sodexo aims to replace last year’s Guinness World Record-breaking drive statistics as the Largest Food Drive by a non-charitable organization over multiple locations in a 24-hour period with a new record on November 12, 2009. In light of last year’s overwhelming success, Rollins has been challenged to raise its contribution from 3,777 pounds to 10,000 pounds of canned goods. The drive will take place beginning October 22 for three weeks leading up to the official weigh-in.

Starting with the October 22 kickoff event, collection boxes will be set up around campus and Flex Card donations can be made at any dining services location.
