Music Major Requirements

An audition before a majority of the tenured music faculty is required to gain acceptance as a major in music.
Fifty-eight (58) semester hours are required: thirty (30) in musicianship, twelve (12) in performance, and sixteen (16) in electives.

MUSICIANSHIP AREA 30 semester hours
MUS 151 Theory 1 (Harmony) with Lab 5 s.h.
MUS 152 Theory 2 (Harmony) with Lab 5 s.h.
MUS 190 Introduction to Music and Technology 4 s.h.
MUS 251 Theory 3 (Counterpoint) 4 s.h.
MUS 252 Theory 4 (Chromatic Harmony) 4 s.h.
MUS 361 Music History: Renaissance/Baroque 4 s.h.
MUS 362 Music History: Classic/Romantic 4 s.h.
PERFORMANCE AREA 12 semester hours
MUA 200 Music Ensembles 4 s.h.
MUA 201 OR MUA 301 OR MUA 401 Applied Music 8 s.h.
MUSIC ELECTIVES 16 semester hours
Four (4) electives in music, three (3) of which must be at the 300 level or above.

Thirty (30) semester hours are required. .
