Ted Gournelos, Ph.D.

Faculty Biography

Ted Gournelos has a Ph.D. in Communications and a M.F.A. in Sculpture from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. A scholar of media and oppositional culture, his 2009 monograph Popular Culture and the Future of Politics was followed in 2011 with two edited collections, A Decade of Dark Humor and Transgression 2.0. He is currently researching the cultural politics and social implications of digital culture. He teaches cultural and media theory, video and still image production through industry-standard programs, as well as various courses on film, television, advertising, and digital media. He has appeared on media programs such as The Pat Morrison Show on 89.3 KPCC in Los Angeles, and his work has been reviewed in The Chronicle of Higher Education.
