Susan Easton, Ph.D.

“Communication is the real work of leadership.”

Susan Easton is a professor at Rollins College where she teaches undergraduate and graduate level courses and currently serves as the chair of the Communication Department. Her expertise is in the area of organizational, intercultural and virtual communication studies.

Dr. Easton incorporates innovative teaching and real-world experiences to bring classroom theories to life for her students, and as a result, she has received several teaching awards. In the past nine years, she was a two-time recipient of the Walter E. Barden Award for Excellence and Innovation in Teaching, and in May 2007, was given the Arthur Vining Davis Award for Excellence in Service and Scholarship. In May 2009, Dr. Easton was acknowledged as the Outstanding Florida Teacher by the Florida Communication Association.

Susan Easton is also active in academic pursuits and has served in several leadership positions for the Florida Communication Association including President. In 2007, she co-authored the book, Communicating Globally: Intercultural Communication and International Business (Sage Publication). She has several other publications, including articles on bullying, teaching online, and the impact of virtual communication.

In addition to teaching at Rollins, Susan is also the president of Easton & Associates, which has been a respected Organizational Development consulting network since 1988 specializing in innovative workforces, including global and virtual teams. Dr. Easton has served an impressive client base that includes several Fortune 500 Companies such as GE, Nike, AAA, Lockheed Martin, Walt Disney World, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Harris Caprock, Florida Hospital, Hyatt Hotels, and Darden Restaurants. She has also consulted to nonprofit and government organizations like Hospice of America and the City of Tallahassee, and to colleges and universities around the country, including Seminole Community College, the University of North Texas, and the University of Hawaii.
