The Cahall-Sandspur Field
and Barker Family Stadium give Rollins College one
of the finest soccer facilities in Division II, while
also complementing the architecture of the Rollins
campus. The grass field was enlarged in 2004 to
meet requirements for hosting NCAA Tournament
competition and includes new drainage and watering
systems that ensure a top-quality playing surface. The
Barker Family Stadium provides chair-back seating for
500 fans. The facility also houses team rooms for both
the men's and women's squads, as well as public restrooms
and a concession stand.
On October 30, 2004, Rollins President Lewis M. Duncan officiated at the ribbon cutting and ceremonial opening of the Cahall-Sandspur Field and Barker Family Stadium. Benefactors Peter Scott Cahall and Francis H. "Frank" Barker and his wife, Daryl Stamm Barker, as well as other donors who made the new facility possible, including Tony Tremaine '70, Wynee Warden '45, Stan Gale '72, Joe Raymond '84, T.B. Garcia, Mike Fogle '77, Duke Marsh '76 and Thomas Thompson '68, were recognized.
Peter Cahall, a 1971 graduate and former student-athlete at Rollins, helped lead the Tars to the 1970 NCAA Atlantic Coast Regional, the first time in the history of Rollins soccer that the school was invited. Cahall progressed in the business world to become the chief executive officer of The Newport Group, a financial services and investment company with a concentration on insurance and securities.
A native of Jacksonville, Florida, Frank Barker graduated from Rollins in 1952 with a bachelor's degree in business administration. He played on the Tars varsity basketball and baseball teams and, during the 1951-52 season, set the Rollins record (which still stands) for most points scored in a basketball game. Frank Barker is chairman of the Rollins College Board of Trustees and serves on the College’s Athletic Council. He was inducted into the Rollins College Sports Hall of Fame in 1983, received the Alumni Achievement Award in 1988 and was recognized with the Distinguished Alumnus Award in 1992. He retired in 1995 from Johnson & Johnson after 34 years and was instrumental in building a relationship between the company and his alma mater.
Originally from Elizabeth, New
Jersey, Daryl Stamm Barker graduated from Rollins in 1953 with a bachelor's
degree in Spanish and human relations. She was an
active undergraduate student, participating in All-Star and intramural basketball and
volleyball, among other activities. She is a
former member of the College's Alumni Association Board
of Directors.
