The library offers options for patrons who wish to read, download, or request electronic books.  If you have any questions or need additional information, feel free to ask a librarian.

Downloadable E-books

We license over 9,000 titles from Ebrary. Materials from Ebrary can be accessed via an app for Apple’s iDevices (as of Spring 2012, Ebrary is working on an Android version). Patrons without access to the app can creat an image PDF of a specific e-book chapter or page range by following these instructions. These PDFs have the same page limits as for printing, are accessible on most computers and devices, typically don't require additional software, and do not expire.
Ebrary also has a way to download a copy of a whole book as an Adobe Digital Edition.

Olin licenses almost 8,000 titles published by Springer that are available online. Springer presents its fulltext as PDFs (usually at the chapter level) and enables authorized users to download them to devices.

The library provides access to over 19,000 titles via EBSCO. They present the fulltext in PDF format, but have limits on downloading and printing: 30 pages total from any title, single pages by default.

E-book Readers Available for Checkout

We have Nook e-reader available for checkout.  We have many titles already loaded on these readers; these can be found in the catalog.

Several iPads are also available for checkout.  Our iPads have the Kindle App installed with all of the books we have available on Kindle readable on the iPad.  You can also access our online e-book collections through the iPad.  The E-brary app is installed on the iPads for your convenience.

In accordance with our collection development and security policies, we cannot purchase titles for your personal e-reader device.

Ebooks in our Collection

The library subscribes to services that provide e-books on a variety of topics.  These services include:

  • Ebrary - A collection of over 40,000 e-books from multiple disciplines.
  • Ebsco E-Book Collection - A collection of full text reference, scholarly, and professional books.
  • SpringerLink Ebooks - E-books available online in multiple sciences, with some overlap into economics, business, architecture, and design.

While searching the catalog, e-books are easiy recognizable by the word "E-BOOK" in the item record.  You can narrow your catalog searches to return only e-book results by selecting Type:  E-BOOK when performing catalog searches.  Click the LINK button to be taken to the book.  If you are off campus, you will be prompted to enter your FoxID and Password.
