How much does it cost and how can I pay for it? The project cost is $325 per person for the entire trip. This cost includes housing, meals, transportation once you are here, supplies, and any other necessary expenses. If you cannot pay for the project, there are several ways that you can raise the money (see the Fundraising Information page). You can also speak with your IV staff worker to see of there are any ways that your chapter might be able to assist you. How do I apply? Print out the application, fill it out and send it in to Jonathan French at:
338 East Lyman Avenue Don't forget to give the peer evaluations to a peer and a Christian minister or your staff worker. These are very important! You might want to give them a stamped, addressed envelope so that they can send them directly to Jonathan. What about safety? You will never be going anywhere alone. All of the work that you do at the sites will be done in your small group of 6-8 people. You will not be going out at night, unless the entire group is going. Common sense will be your best guide, but if it's not, the staff will be there to remind you of your surroundings. If you or your parents have any other concerns, please e-mail or call the project director, Jonathan French at jd-mwfrench@msn.com, 407-647-3413, ext. 325 (his office), or 407-277-9208 (his cell phone). When do I have to be there? You need to arrive at the church in downtown Orlando between 3:00-5:00pm on May 30th (see attached map and directions). Please eat lunch before you arrive. What if I need to come late or leave early? Because this is a training experience, we ask that you participate in the entire project, from beginning to end. If you have a special request, please contact Jonathan French. Will I be able to leave the project to go see my relatives or visit the theme parks? No. The project is designed to build on itself; if you cannot attend it in its entirety, then it is not the project for you. If I am flying into Orlando, what do I do? You need to plan on arriving in Orlando no later than the morning of May 30th. Please contact Jonathan French (jd-mwfrench@msn.com) or Kim Koi (kkoi77@yahoo.com) as soon as you have your flight information. We will arrange for someone to meet you at the airport. What about my car? While on the trip, your car will be sold and the money donated to urban missions organizations. Just kidding. You will not be allowed to drive while you are here, but your car will be parked safely at the church for the duration of the project. When is the project over? The project concludes on Sunday, June 15th after 2:00 pm. Where will we be staying? We will be staying at The Cathedral Church of St. Luke's, a church in the heart of downtown Orlando. They have kindly given us the use of their facility for the two weeks of the project. You will be sleeping on the floor, so consider that as you pack your bedding. What about bathing? Showers will be infrequent, so please plan accordingly. Will we have any free time? Yes, you will have some free time, but it is very limited. It will be a busy, tiring, exhilarating seventeen days, so please come ready to meet the challenge. During your free time, you will NOT be allowed to leave the plunge. Can I go see my relatives or leave the project during free time? No. How does my family get in touch with me if there is an emergency? You will be given this information in a packet that will be mailed to you once you are accepted to the project. Can I receive snail mail? Yes, but all mail must be postmarked by June 10 for you to receive it. Have mail sent to:
735 W. Columbia St. Can I check or send e-mail? No, absolutely not. Please do not bring your laptop. What else can't I bring? DO NOT bring radios, headphones or players, Gameboys, computers or chihuahuas. Will I be allowed to make telephone calls? Yes, but only with a phone card or by calling collect (the phone card would definitely be the cheaper route!). You will not be able to make calls regularly (you cannot call mom, dad, boyfriend, girlfriend, etc. every night). |
