Welcome to our engaged campus...and be
prepared for an incredible transformation that will help you use your education
to create change in the world.
“An engaged campus is one that is
consciously committed to reinvigorating the democratic spirit and community
engagement in all aspects of its campus life: students, faculty, staff and the
institution itself. The engaged campus
recognizes that knowledge cannot be separated from the purposes to which it is
directed. The engaged campus is not
just located within a community, it is intimately connected to the public
purposes and aspirations of community life itself. The engaged campus is unable to separate its unique responsibility for
the development of knowledge, from the role of knowledge in a democratic
society to form the basis for social progress and human equality.” -

Rollins College educates students for global citizenship and responsible leadership. The Office of Community Engagement (OCE) fosters, encourages, and promotes student, faculty, and staff involvement within local and global communities. Through service-learning courses, community-based research, leadership development, community service, and innovative immersion programs and resources, OCE is deeply committed to fostering a lifelong commitment to personal and social responsibility in every member of the Rollins Community.
Combining your on-campus classroom experiences with the greatest challenges facing our global community will allow you to become a well-rounded student and professional who is ready, both intellectually and civically, to make a positive impact on humanity. Student success and student-learning are at the center of all OCE initiatives. Our goal is for students to learn, develop and grow through personal and social responsibility by contributing to a larger community. We use the American Association of Colleges and Universities (AAC&U) LEAP Learning Outcomes and Core Commitments as a framework for developing community engagement experiences.
OCE focuses on three community
engagement priorities at Rollins. These include: Engaged Scholarship
(supporting curriculum integration of community engagement through research and
service), Engaged Campus (connecting students, faculty, and staff to learning opportunities outside the classroom) and Community Partnership
Development (working hand-in-hand with community leaders as co-educators
committed to global progress and change).
Community Engagement opportunities will allow you to connect your deepest
passion with the world’s greatest needs. We invite you to learn more about our
unique community-based courses, resources, programs and experiences by
“virtually” visiting the areas of this website, or stopping by to meet with
members of the OCE team to discuss ways you can get engaged. As a member of the Rollins Community you
have the opportunity to serve as an agent of change. Your leadership is
critical as we approach issues and challenges facing the 21st century in both
Central Florida and around the globe. The time is right to step up to the plate
and be the difference. Whether it be civic engagement, mentoring underserved
youth, preserving the environment, eliminating extreme poverty and
homelessness, or providing education and support to people affected by
violence, we can help you connect and engage by creating progress in the world.
Yours in Community,

Micki P. Meyer
