Office Of International Programs

Other Schools' Programs

It isn't possible for Rollins to develop a program or have an affiliation in every country where there is student interest.  For this reason, Rollins offers the option of study abroad on other programs with some limitations.  Rollins restricts the programs for which students may earn Rollins credit, to ensure that the programs approved for transfer of credit are consistent with the academic quality and rigor of the undergraduate program at Rollins.

To select a program sponsored by another institution, consult information available in the International Programs office.  A good source of information on the World Wide Web is http://www.studyabroad.com .  You could also consult the IIE publication entitled Academic Year Abroad which also has an online service at http://www.iiepassport.org or Peterson's Study Abroad guide.  These guides list programs by country and give a summary of information, including web addresses.

You should make an appointment with a staff member in International Programs to talk over your choice of program to ensure that you will receive credit.

Students wishing to study on other schools' programs need to follow this procedure:

  1. You will need to complete four forms (A - D listed below) - downloadable from this site.  Click on the name of the form below and it will open in Adobe Acrobat format.  You can print them from there.

Deadlines for these forms are as follows:

   - Studying abroad during the Fall - Forms A, B, & C - due Feb. 2nd

                                                       Form D - due by April 30th

   - Studying abroad during the Spring - Forms A, B & C - due Oct. 2nd

                                                           Form D - due by Nov. 30th

A. Application to study on another school's program

B. Change of Status Form:  You will fill out the top portion of this form and return to International Programs. This notifies Rollins College of your intent to take a leave-of-absence for the term you will be completing the study abroad program through another school.

C. Dean's Statement: Evaluates your judicial and academic status.

D. Application for Transfer Credit: Instructions for completing this form are included with the form.  This form will ensure that credit will be transferable BEFORE you embark on your semester abroad.  This completed form is MANDATORY and must be completed before the date listed on the instructions.

  1. Upon receipt of an acceptance letter from the program, make an appointment to see an International Programs representative.  Bring your acceptance letter to the meeting.
  2. While abroad, you must submit another Change of Status Form to signify your intent to return to Rollins the  following semester.  You should send this form directly to International Programs by mail, or fax.  (Mail: 1000 Holt Avenue - Box 2759, Winter Park, FL  32789;  Fax: (407) 646-2595 )

ITEMS OF NOTE:

  • Since you will be taking a leave-of-absence, you will pay any fees for your semester abroad directly to the host institution.
  • The host institution's rules and regulations apply to payment, insurance and all other legal issues.
  • Rollins accepts no responsibility for problems arising from students studying on other schools' programs.
  • Scholarships, Federal Loans, Rollins Grants and any other public aid will NOT be transferable for use on other schools' programs.  If you have a private scholarship or loan, consult with the provider to see if it will transfer.
  • You will have access to your Rollins e-mail account while you are on leave-of-absence -- however, your will not have access to Foxlink.  You will need to provide International Programs with an email address that you will be checking on a regular basis (if using an alternate to your Rollins account), as email is our main form of communication while you are abroad.
  • You will need to provide your abroad address and phone number to International Programs as soon as you know it.  We will send you a mailing with pertinent information as well as registration information for the following semester when they come available.
  • You will need to contact Residential Life to notify them of your semester away, and let them know if you intend to return to on-campus housing upon your return.
